Parent summary
Reigate Caves offers a well-structured experience with knowledgeable, friendly staff who communicate clearly and guide visitors through the tour in an organised way. The predictable format and clear explanations work well for many families. The caves do have acoustic qualities that can make them feel loud, so it's worth knowing this in advance. Tickets sell quickly, so booking ahead is essential.
What visitors say
Visitors consistently praise the knowledgeable and friendly staff, well-structured guided tours, and clear explanations that help children engage with the history. The tour format follows a set pace and schedule, which provides predictability but means there's limited time to linger; the caves can feel echoey and loud during busier periods. Tickets tend to sell out quickly, so advance booking is important to secure your slot.

Tips for your visit
Public visits only available in 2026 - check 'Open Days 2026' on website for dates. Private tours also available by booking. Strongly recommend contacting venue directly before visiting if child has mobility, access or sensory needs, as the inherent nature of the caves (steps, uneven terrain, sand floors) presents significant challenges.
Accessibility
NOT suitable for most wheelchair users or those with mobility issues. Barons' Cave has steep steps at entrance and throughout. Tunnel Road East & West contain stairs, ramps and soft sand floors. Website states caves 'are not well suited to everyone' due to their nature as Scheduled Ancient Monuments which cannot be modified. Alternative entrance to East caves available for some mobility issues, but this is limited access.
